As requested, I record the music mix for most of my weddings and send the mix as an Mp3 to the newly wed couple. They love it!
Carly and JJ’s wedding proved that even small weddings on Maui (-25 guests) should have a awesome dance party. They rocked out hard for over two hours at the Olowalu… This is the mix that got them going. Carly and JJ were great to work with and loved logging in to my online song request system to update their music list. The guests also seemed to appreciate that I passed my request list around after the dancing had started. Another great wedding!
“Liam did such a great job with our wedding & we are so glad that we booked him. All of our 23 guests (ranging in ages from 2 months – 75) told us so many times how much they enjoyed all of the music and how they thought Liam did such a great job! He really played a variation of music that made everybody at our wedding feel like they were a part of it, which is exactly what we wanted. Liam was also really great during the planning process…he was really prompt with returning emails and he was also very willing to skype and have conference calls with us. He also has such a great online system that it made it really easy for us to add songs when we thought of them and then save it and come back to it later…rather than having to sit down at one time and complete all of our music requests and preferences at once, which was really perfect for us.” – Carly & JJ (WeddingWire Review)
Big weddings can be stressful when the production team is not put together well. It’s often up to your coordinator and DJ/emcee to keep things moving smoothly. This past weekend I did a wedding at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel for 300 guests and it turned out to be awesome! The huge buffet, cocktail lounge, luau, slideshow, canvas guestbook, and photo booth were great… but it was the bridal party introductions, fire dancers, games/dances, personal recognitions, first dance solo singer, surprise bridesmaids boogie, and packed dance floor that made the night epically unforgettable. We worked HARD on this one!
Video of me emceeing, my recorded music mix, and client reviews coming soon.
This past weekend I did a very nice wedding with Del Sol at the Olowalu Plantation House.
The Olowalu is one of my favorite locations on Maui because of the overall ambience of sound – the waves caressing the shoreline rocks, the birds in the big Cook Pines and Palms. However, as with many locations on the islands, it’s important not to forget to speak into the microphone louder than normal when the noise of the afternoon trade winds is present.
The reception “Dancing Shoes” (pictured) was a fun, creative, and colorful idea. There are basically 2 areas for dancing at the Olowalu. 1. On the dedicated cement dance floor next to the parking lot or 2. Directly in front of the house in the grass. Older folks are generally pretty cautious when dancing on grass. A permanent or temporarily built dance floor can be well worth it. Your coordinator or I can rent one for you for around $1000.
The bride, groom, and guests did, however have an AWESOME time rocking out on the grass! The kids were especially fun to watch. Great wedding!

Ambrosia Maui - “If you were not at Ambrosia last night, you missed out on an intense competition!!! 6 competitors- DJ TRVR (@Trevor Pechin), DJ Iggz ( @glenn cabrera), Dj-Kollision, DJ Tee ( Thilo Güntzel), DJ Kurt Kaiser, and DJ Liam James Grist!!!! They were all amazing but only 4 will make it to the next round of competition and they will be announced live at Ambrosia Monday at midnight!!!!”
Scott and Sarah were a great couple to work with. They got quite a few friends to help with the collaborative, Google Doc song list. They wanted plenty of wedding classics, top 40, and quite a few of their own favorites including Miike Snow’s “Animal”, Florence and the Machine’s “Dog Days are Over”, and some David Guetta.
They also had a diverse crowd of old and young who all wanted to dance. I was so glad to see such a mix of people on the dance floor the entire night. It’s so important to give the crowd enough slow-dance, traditional hawaiian, waltz, and swing sections so some people get a more intimate and/or comfortable dance while others can get a break for drinks. It also helps when these songs and more upbeat songs are mixed together well. When mixing, I consider not only the content and tempo of songs, but also the song key. This makes for seamless, pleasant-sounding and energetic transitions.
My mic sounded loud and clear throughout the night. However, I did not mix the volume correctly in the recorded track so it sounds very quiet.
I give the recorded reception – including toasts and music, to the bride and groom after their wedding day.
